Before Spinal Surgery
If you need spine surgery, we’re committed to making sure your experiences are positive. The following information will help you prepare for your procedure with Dr. Brisson.
Our office staff will work with your insurance company to authorize your procedure, and we’ll do our best to schedule your surgery as quickly as possible.
Depending on your age and your overall physical health, you may need to report to the hospital or your primary care physician for pre-surgical testing. This will help us keep you safe on the day of your surgery, and we’ll work with you to make sure you get the tests you need.
Once your surgery has been scheduled, Dr. Brisson will meet with you to discuss how to prepare for the operation and answer any questions you have.
How long will I be in the hospital?
The length of your hospital stay will vary depending on the type of surgery you receive. Typical stays range from 1 to 5 days.
- Do not eat or drink after midnight on the night before your surgery.
- Discontinue any anti-inflammatory medication or aspirin you are taking one week before your surgery. Dr. Brisson will give you a list of other drugs, herbs, and substances to avoid.*
- Bring a friend or family member with you to take you home after surgery.
*If you’re currently taking cardiac medication, please consult with your cardiologist before scheduling your surgery.
