After spinal surgery
If you need spine surgery, we’re committed to making sure your experiences are positive. The following information will help you learn what to expect following your procedure with Dr. Brisson.
After spinal surgery, Dr. Brisson and one of his physician assistants will visit you at the hospital to see how you’re feeling. We’ll also give you detailed instructions about recovery and caring for your back as it is healing. Hospital staff members are responsible for planning your trip home, but we’re always available to help should complications or questions arise.
Once you’re home, you can call us to schedule a follow-up appointment. During this visit, Dr. Brisson will help you understand what to expect as you recover, and discuss your options for starting physical therapy.
How long will I be in pain?
Dr. Brisson takes an active approach to pain management. He will work with hospital specialists to put together a customized pain relief program after your surgery. Once you’ve left the hospital, it’s important to continue taking any medications he’s prescribed — do not wait until your pain is unbearable.
As you heal, Dr. Brisson and his assistants are always available to help you manage your pain. We can also recommend physical therapists and prescribe additional medications, if necessary.
